Having an intense couple of weeks here with life/work pressures AND (because of that) falling behind on where I need to be in output for The Book. So I am taking a little mental vacation late tonite (nearly 3a my time now as I write this) -
tonight I have been playing my all-time favorite addictive football game (well, one version of same, there are actually Two variations on this theme) AND listening to 70s/80s music on my favorite internet radio station/website.
So how much heaven is this? Leading the Packers to a game-winning score to the tantrum beat of "Walks Like an Egyptian"?!? What a hoot.
yes yes I confess: I am an f-ing FOOTBALL FREAK!!!!! In real life too (Seahawks are my team) - but year-round I can (and do) play Madden NFL Football (which I have since it first came out) - not only do I have the pc version (alas 2007 is the last year they are making it for that platform **and it is this fact, and this alone**, I tell you, that is FORCING me to move to the XBOX so I can continue on seamlessly with my baller addiction!!! @#$@%$@$!!!!. What do they say? Hardware purchases are driven by software needs? No shit. AARGHH.)
AND I not only play NFL Football :::I play Head Coach as well!!!::; and if you're into sports franchise software you know how hardcore that means I am. Ooooo rah!!!
Couple that with my music station and tonight I have had the supreme pleasure of watching my finely crafted Cheesehead machine wipe the ball field with the sorry asses of the Lions, with the most dramatic moments undersscored by (in)appropriate 80s rock.
I'm in hog heaven. ROFLMAO!!!!
Ok, ok. It was only the Lions. But hey, I *have* taken my team to the Superbowl in the Coach game (where I lost to the Colts. I hate the Colts. Snotty SOBs. And they usually kick my ass. Are they really that good?? ) - and unlike the NFL game, there's no "difficulty" adjustments you can make for the game). It's a one-level unmutable playing field, and every coach (AI or otherwise) for his/her own strategic decisions; they make or break you.
So.
Tina Turner sings "we don't need another hero" while my surprise draft pick is throwing PA surprise and score one after the other. Right On.
Happy evening to crack football me.
Crack, of course, because it is Addictive in its own very perverse way.
And please don't go on at me about other games that are superior to this. From Zork to Eve Online, I have been there and probably done that - if not all of it - then most of it. I *do* have a basis of comparison.
This just scratches an itch I can't scratch any other way until I own an NFL franchise, I suppose.
In the meantime this will do.
And on this note I conclude this broadcast accompanied by the finely honed tunes of the Star Wars theme song music in the variant version rendered by Mekko, the first take-off on SW to appear in 1978 and my god didn't that just sound PRIMO on quadrophonic stereo!
Don't laugh if you haven't given it a whirl. It is second only to Flash Gordon soundtrack, music by Queen (Flash! Ah....ah...! he does the impossible!...)
Ok.
I'm going now.
Really.

*disclaimer: if you can not tell, I am very tired and making horrible jokes, please do not remind me of these as I may make the same joke again as a result of the reminder... but damn, I thought it was funny.
It is for similar reasoning that I once had cats named Nernie and Bert. So I could call out "Bert Nernie! and have them both show up. Of course, when Sesame street first invented those characters, I'd only heard about them in passing, and my ear did not distinguish that it was Bert AND Ernie. I thought it was 1 character, named Bert Nernie. Hence the cats. You follow, I'm sure.
But then I think perhaps you are warped that way, tired or not. ;)
I like the Bert Nernie, that's great.
